NVQ Qualifications
Upon successful completion of your chosen course you will be awarded the Southern School of Beauty Diploma. This will enable you to obtain insurance with The Guild
of Professional Beauty Therapists or Towergate Insurance.
You also have the option to go on to take the VTCT qualification (NVQ) in most subjects. You can do a complete NVQ Diploma ie Level 2 NVQ Beauty, or Level 2 NVQ
Nail Services, or you can just take individual units of a full NVQ, ie Unit B6 - Carry out waxing services. This involves the completion of a portfolio of evidence
and attendance at our school for assessment sessions. You will have up to one year to complete the qualification for the full level 2 or 6 months for an individual unit.
For individual NVQ Units you have 8 weeks from completing your course to apply for the NVQ qualification. For full NVQ Diplomas you would need to
pay the NVQ fees on the first day of training.
Upon application you will be given a pack which gives instructions on how to complete a portfolio. This will need to contain case studies, ie client treatment record
sheets with before and after photographs in some cases. There are also written assignments to complete. You will need to show evidence that you have worked on a wide
range of different clients. You will have a timetable to work to when completing the portfolio.
Once your portfolio is complete it can be submitted to the school to be marked, and if this is satisfactory, we will arrange for you to attend for assessments.
You will need to be assessed several times on different clients. The amount of assessments varies according to which qualification you take. Once booked you must
attend for assessments, except for close family bereavement or with a doctor's certificate.
On the assessment day you will carry out the treatment on your models,
and complete a multiple choice paper (including anatomy and physiology, but you will be provided with practice diagrams for this). You can have 3 attempts at this paper.
You can be assessed in several subjects in the one session and each assessment day will last all day. You can provide some of the models yourself or we can arrange them
for most subjects.
If successful your VTCT qualification will be sent on to you, usually within 2 weeks. If unsuccessful, you can arrange to be re-assessed at a later
date free of charge.
