Take a look at some of our beauty questions and answers to get a better understanding of our business. For more information, call The Southern School of Beauty Therapy today. We provide courses on facial, body beauty, nails and holistics in Hampshire.
Where is the school?
We are in the village of Denmead near Waterlooville, (about 20 minutes from Portsmouth), with free parking, just 5 miles from Junction 3 of the A3M. Click here to view our location on Google Maps. The nearest train station is Havant.
How do I book?
If you would like to book please call us on 02392 256375.
We take your booking and card payment over the phone and then send a confirmation email.
Alternatively we can take your booking in person in our office by card or cash.
What sort of person attends your courses?
All types and all ages. Our courses are short, and are suitable for people from all walks of life. Some students will be existing therapists, looking to add new skills to their range, some will be complete beginners and some will be just doing the course for their own pleasure, and maybe to work on family and friends.
What do I need to wear?
If you have a therapists’ uniform you could wear this, but if not just wear something comfortable with sensible shoes and minimal jewellery, with long hair tied up.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
No, nothing at all. You will be provided with a manual which you will take home with you. You can make notes in this. We have plenty of pens and paper, and tea, coffee etc. will be provided. We have a kitchen, fridge and microwave if you want to bring a packed lunch. We are in a row of shops which include a Co-Op, Fish & Chip shop, Cafe/Restaurant and a lovely Bakery.
Will I be able to get a job with my new qualifications?
When you successfully complete your chosen course you will be awarded the SSBT diploma. With this you can join one of the professional associations and obtain insurance. This is sufficient for many salons or if you wish to work for yourself.
Why are the courses so much shorter than at a college?
Our students are extremely motivated and keen to learn, and we only have a maximum of six students on a course. In a college, you would spend a major part of each day on theory, whereas we spend most of the day concentrating on practical training, with a lot of the theory covered by home study, with the use of our manuals and recommended books.
Are there any hidden costs, i.e. kits to buy?
No. We provide all the products you will need on the day to practice with and are able to give you help and advice on different suppliers available. We do have optional kits available to purchase for some of our courses which a starter kits for you to take home. See kits page for details.
Are the course lecturers properly qualified?
Yes, they hold professional and teaching qualifications. They also have years of experience working in commercial salons, teaching in colleges and running their own successful businesses.
What if I feel I need extra tuition before I am confident with my new skills?
If for any reason you are not completely happy with everything, we will arrange for you to attend the course again free of charge! We offer a full support service where you can email or call for any help you may need. Also you are welcome to attend the course again (space permitting) for the demo and practical if you feel some months down the line that you need to come in and fine tune your skills or ask for help.
Do I need to bring a model, or do we work on each other?
You will work on fellow students as we feel it is beneficial for you to also receive the treatment; this gives you more empathy with your clients. If, however, you are unable to receive a treatment for any reason, please telephone the office to discuss model arrangements.
I want to do several courses at once, is there somewhere local I can stay?
Yes, accommodation is available nearby. Please contact us for details.
Is there parking?
Yes we have 4 parking spaces in our car park. Alternatively the village centre of Denmead is free parking all day and there is a large free car park just up past the church in Kidmore Lane.
What arrangements do you have for somebody with special needs?
Please telephone us to discuss your individual requirements. We can, for example, arrange for written tests to be answered orally if you have reading/writing difficulties, and if English is not your first language you may bring an interpreter with you.
Whatever your needs, we will do our very best to accommodate them.
